If you're in New Haven and haven’t yet visited Arethusa Farm Dairy, let this be your sign from the dairy gods. Welcome to farm-to-cone paradise. Isn’t just about ice cream– it's an experience, a creamy, dreamy pilgrimage where every bite tastes like it was crafted by benevolent, butter-loving deities. Made with farm-fresh ingredients, it’s a place where you can taste the difference—and we’re not just talking about the ice cream (though we’ll get to that in a second). And yes it's even good in 20 degree weather, because you must be against fun if you let a little frostbite stop you from eating some seriously delectable ice cream!

Pretty Much Right from the Cow

Arethusa’s got a herd of happy cows that produce some seriously good milk. Call me nuts – until you try it yourself and I’m sure you’ll concur!  They’re all about quality—specifically, the freshest ingredients possible. No mystery ingredients here—just pure, local goodness. The result? Ice cream and cheese that’s ridiculously creamy and craveable.

The Ice Cream: Fall Flavors and Beyond

Let’s talk Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream. Arethusa has certainly nailed fall’s unofficial mascot. It’s better than actual pumpkin pie – no soggy crust, no undercooked dough, no questionable spice ratios. Just pure, velvety pumpkin goodness with a cinnamon-nutmeg symphony that slaps. If you like pumpkin pie (and even if you don’t), you’ll love this.

Now, if pumpkin pie isn’t your thing (no judgment, maybe a little judgement), or autumn has cruelly abandoned us– there’s Mint Chip. And trust me, I’m not talking about that neon green, toothpaste adjacent imposter which features those weird waxy chocolate bits. This is the real deal: natural mint paired with chunks of real crunchy chocolate. It’s refreshing, it’s cool, and it won’t leave your tongue looking like you licked a highlighter.

Beyond the Scoop: Cheese, Butter, and Milk

I’m happy to report that Arethusa’s dairy game is Olympic-level across the board. The cheese? Chef’s kiss.  Whether you’re looking for a smooth cheese spread to pair with crackers or a sharp aged variety to impress at your next dinner party, they’ve got you covered. Bonus: it’s made on-site from the same fresh milk that goes into their ice cream. So yes, you can totally enjoy some creamy, farm-fresh cheese after your ice cream, because you’re in college and you make your own rules.

And the butter? If you’re used to sad, flavorless grocery store butter, prepare to have your mind (and toast) blown. If you’re a fan of really good butter that actually tastes like something, Arethusa's the place to go. Once you try it, there’s no going back.

I know. It’s cold. But trust me: walk to Arethusa. Yes…you! If you’re on Old Campus it’s less than a 4 minute trek, and it will probably be the best decision you make all week. You’ll leave happy, full, and probably with an extra pint of ice cream for “later” (which, let’s be honest, means tonight.)
